FROM THE PALOS HEIGHTS POLICE DEPARTMENT:
As the warm weather approaches, the Palos Heights Police Department wants to remind its citizens to lock their car doors and windows, to prevent thefts from motor vehicles. These types of thefts typically occur in the late evening to early morning hours, and almost always involve unlocked motor vehicles.
Items taken during these types of thefts have included but are not limited to GPS units, MP3 players, wallets, purses, credit cards and miscellaneous cash and change.
The Palos Heights Police Department is reminding residents to take at least two very simple preventative steps:
1) Locking their car doors, windows and setting their car alarms.
2) Not leaving valuable items in their cars, especially in plain view.
Residents are urged to report any suspicious persons, especially those who may be walking down residential streets/driveways in the overnight hours and looking into car windows and trying door handles. Please immediately report any suspicious persons or activity by calling 9-1-1.
- Lock your car’s doors and windows, and set the car alarm.
- Don’t leave valuables in your car, especially in plain view for anyone to see.
- Don’t leave any evidence of valuables. Put all GPS mounts, MP3 player docking stations,
etc, away as most burglars will see those and break-in trying to find where you hid the items.
- Report any suspicious persons or suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.
Tools to aid ComEd customers with power outages
ComEd has launched some new initiatives to help customers with power outages in time for this summer’s storms.
An interactive outage map is now available on ComEd.com. The color-coded map allows customers to find information on the location and size of outages and get estimated restoration times.
ComEd is offering a mobile application for iPhone and Android devices, enabling users to report outages and manage their accounts from their smartphones. To download the free application, go to www.comed.com/app or search “ComEd” in the smartphone’s application store.
Outages can be reported by texting the word OUT to 26633, and text messages can be received with restoration time estimates.
Above all, call ComEd and 911 immediately if there is an electric emergency.
